POST-SECONDARY
EDUCATION HUB (PSE)

Funded by The Kakivak Association, the Inuit post-secondary hub started in 2022 with roughly ten students, but now supports over fifty. The program continues to grow each year as more students are being accepted into post-secondary programs. The program is supported by an Elder and a Student-Support Worker.

Supports Provided

The PSE program helps eliminate barriers that Inuit students face

and have faced through their post-secondary journey. The program

looks to tackle these barriers and provide resources to Inuit

students. By connecting students to their culture through cultural

programming and access to elders, students are experiencing

massive success. Students also have access to tutors and

other academic resources that will aid them in furthering their

academic achievements.

The PSE student support worker helps Inuit students looking to

apply to college or university by assisting them with applications

for post-secondary education and accessing funding for Inuit students.

Partnerships & Initiatives

Program support is offered for a wide variety of educational goals. Many students chose social work or psychology fields to give back to the community on a front-line basis.

The program has partnered with the Devolution project, employing Inuit STEM students for the land transition from the federal government to the Nunavut Territory.

Our PSE elder conducts workshops with local colleges and universities, including a popular beading program at Carleton University’s Ojigkwanong Centre and bi-weekly sewing and beading workshops at Algonquin College.
